Experienced managers know why they wish to have “real leaders”.
The apparatus does not secure safety. It is the format of a real leader that gives others secureness.
An apparatus does not necessarily push things. Far from it. In some organizations the apparatus eats a huge part of the ability to realize something.
Some organizations can only rotate about themselves without any contact to the outside world.
A leader makes a cooperation possible which is not coined by hierarchical structures. A personality with this skill does not get his secureness by his position, but from himself.
The leader owns character and integrity. For them, the rephrased sentence by General Colonel Beck, who fell a villain to victim, is deemed to be:
“At a competitive struggle the qualities of the character outweigh the qualities of the intellect!”
Managers are professional. They act on principles, have methods and instruments. They can use hand tools. They act in a defined framework and lead people with a plan.
They are sober, factual, controlled and reserved. But with soberness alone, people cannot be moved. What really fills people with enthusiasm is the extraordinary and exceptional.
Leaders do not slavishly follow the instruction of the textbook. They reach their goals because they act in a different way, then it is commonly accepted and taken for granted.
They do preserve the originals of their organization. They do not try to impose the same uniform on everyone, they do not try to teach everybody the same body language and to norm the facial expression.
They give freedom and the preconditions, to allow freedom: “Principles, goals, standards, style!”
Leaders measure their biggest success, when they succeed in making others successful.
They try to attract people with the strength of their beliefs, with the illuminating power and quality of their mission, with their style and charm.
They puttheir heart and soul in it. They are not bloodless. They show feelings. Theylove their organization, their employees and members. The development and preservation of long-lastingrelationships is one of the most important tasks for them. They know theimportance of acting on the interpersonal level.
They spent less time than others on the factual level. Their world is based on an interpersonal level. They have an impact on people and so they influence the matter.
They are masters of cultivating relationships. They know how to show appreciation, how to appreciate and how to personally shape relationships.
They know the meaning of ceremonial actions. Leaders do not have the whole year everyday life and only once a year “Kick-off”. They do not only act according to the plan. They are active. They are out and about and do not stick to their desks. They do not only act on the safe native soil but seek and enjoy the contact with others. They do not only head for their goals but travel the borderland to find new beneficial destinations.
They can be successful without totally assign everything. They can endure chaotic conditions and times in a calm way.
Leadership instead of management? No: “Leadership and management!”
A leader without any qualities of a manager isan elemental force of vitality, strength and vibrancy, a source of enthusiasmand chaos.
A manager without vitality and charisma, only fixates on success, only bound to discipline, does not move the people.
Acombination is necessary: The powerful, charismatic leader must be combined with the professionality of the manager.
